Bhutan is a mountainous and landlocked kingdom called “Druk Yul” or “Thunder dragon country”, its total area of 39,400 sq.km which lies along the ridges of the south eastern Himalayas, between the China(Tibet) to north, and India to the east, south and west respectively where its 72% of forest coverage. It population is about 700,000 with four main languages such as Sharchopas in eastern, Bumthangpas and Ngalogpas in western and cerntral and the Lhotshampas in the southern part of the country, Dzongkha is national language. Bhutan is also describe as the last Shangri-la in the world, where travelers have journeyed and is, today, one of the most sought after travel distination.
Bhutan has opened its door to the outside world in 1970s and the Tourism of Bhutan officially started in 1974 with a unique policy of “High value, Low Volume tourism” upholding the the nation’s vision of maintaining its pristine environment, centuries old tradition and culture intact. Bhutan is also becoming popularly known as the “Gross National Happiness” (GNH) Country where GNH is considered more important than Gross National Product (GDP), which strives to achieve a balance the spiritual and the material aspects.
